 CRFB is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to educating policymakers, the media and citizens about the fiscal challenges facing the country, as well as the possible solutions. CRFB is made up of some of the nation's leading budget experts including many of the past Chairmen and Directors of the Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, the Government Accountability Office, and the Federal Reserve Board. CRFB is home to a number of projects including the campaign to Fix the Debt, which is a coalition of business, civic, advocacy and community leaders who want to see elected officials step up to solve our nation’s fiscal challenges. 

Position Summary 

The Deputy Chief of Staff will work directly with the Chief of Staff to manage a variety of organizational priorities and projects. The position will engage with all members of our staff to help coordinate organizational goals on a day to day basis, while taking a lead role in managing select strategic initiatives of the organization.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with the chief of staff to prioritize, communicate and manage organizational priorities and initiatives. 
  • Work vertically and horizontally across the organization to help ensure coordination and alignment on goals and objectives, while identifying opportunities, challenges and barriers to success.
  • Lead select projects assigned by management, including strategic projects and initiatives to advance the organization’s mission, and operational enhancements and improvements.
  • Develop and implement systems to help organization identify, communicate and track status of key organizational priorities and projects. 


Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of work experience.
  • Have a passion for and understanding of federal budget issues, particularly the threat posed by our nation’s long term fiscal challenges. 
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Masters’ degree preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent project management skills and experience, with demonstrated success
  • Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced policy advocacy environment.  
  • Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs.
  • An ability and willingness to serve in a bi-partisan manner, fostering relationships and support from both sides of the aisle, even if the candidate has an existing partisan identity.
  • An understanding of the non-profit environment, with experience in fundraising preferred 
  • Innovative thinker, with a record of accomplishment for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output.
